Something to Think About |
Masonic support for education goes back to the very heart of our heritage.
Masons supported the first public school systems in our country, and have
continued to be proud supporters of schools and education to this day. As
Masons, we understand the importance of an education. There are many Masonic
programs that both support and encourage our children to improve themselves
through education. The State of Arizona has provided us with a unique
opportunity to directly support our students and schools with a
dollar-for-dollar tax credit. Under the Arizona statutes (A. R. S. Section 43-1089), individuals can make up to a $400 donation to a public or charter school ($400 for married filing jointly, $200 for single tax payers) and up to $1000 donations to qualifying school tuition organization ($1000 for married filing jointly, $500 for individual tax payers). This means that Arizona allows you to take a tax credit of up to $1400 (for married filing jointly, $700 for single tax payers) to make a donation to school(s) of your choice. This is a tax credit, not a tax deduction; it will reduce the amount of Arizona State Income tax owed on a dollar-for-dollar basis. I encourage each and every one of my Brothers that are able to take advantage of this donation, to do so and show their support for our Arizona schools. Always consult with your tax advisor before making any donations to insure you are eligible for these tax credits, and to make sure that they are properly applied for when filing your Arizona Income Tax.
