FROM THE EAST

My brothers all,

The time has come for our annual election of officers, the time to chose those among us who will continue to lead and “show the way” to greatness. I will not be able to continue as your WM due to the number of other Masonic assignments I currently have. I want to say that it has been my great privilege to have served as your Worshipful Master for this past year. I do not plan to become a stranger to our lodge room and hope to continue to serve as a dutiful Past WM.

This year has been a remarkable year for our lodge. We have initiated 3 new Entered Apprentices and brought back 2 of our brethren to continue with their Masonic degree work. And, most importantly, all are local residents and active community members. I cannot overemphasize how important this is to the legacy and very heart beat of our lodge. We should be bringing in twice….no, three times this many candidates every year. White Mountain Lodge #3 has had a long and storied past. We have every opportunity to once again reach out to our community by demonstrating that we are a fraternity of truly good men.

I want to remind all of you of the upcoming Grand Lodge Leadership Conferences to be held this next January. W Bro Paul Dore will have copies of the registration forms available for you to sign up. This year’s conference will be even better than previous years. You will be given a wide choice of courses for you to attend, ones that most appeal to you rather than simply being assigned to a course. There will also be a 90 minute discussion period at the end of the day that is meant to allow you to speak out and listen to the ideas of our brothers as to what you feel is most important and what direction you want to see our fraternity take in the coming years.

I want to thank all of our line officers who have served this lodge so diligently this past year. I especially want to thank all of our past masters and brethren who have consistently stepped up to any position or job they have been asked to take on. This is what fraternalism is all about and you all epitomize what we are all about as Masons.

God bless you and your families and may God watch over our armed forces and bring them all home to us safely.

Bill Garrard

FROM THE SOUTH

Brothers,

I apologize for the lateness of Trestleboard this month. Due to being on travel again, I'm actually writing this on Veteran's Day. I wish to say THAK YOU for all that have served this great country. I just returned from the East coast and had a chance to spend most of last Sunday in Boston. Wow, what a city so steeped in history that made this land we live on the greatest nation in the world. The men that accomplished this feat, most were Masons, left a mark on history that few have. You could feel it walking the Freedom Trail. For those that are not familiar, Boston has marked a trail with red brick or red line around the old city of Boston to places that had significance in the Revolutionary days. I had the chance to walk a good portion of it (the whole trail is 2.5 miles) and view the old courthouse, Old North Church where Brother Paul Revere set the laterns, South Church, Cobbs Hill, and cemeteries where many of our Brothers were buried. It is a very worthwhile walk if you are ever in Boston. You can say that they were our 1st Veterans. God bless them and all who have served, even to the extent of giving their lives. Don't forget to remember our troops who are serving at this very moment over seas.

A MASONIC PRAYER FOR PEACE

By Brother Alphonse Cerza

"Whatsoever ye ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

- MATT. 21:22

Supreme Ruler of the Universe, we most reverently invoke Thy blessing in these troubled times. All about us we see evidences of men abandoning the basic Faith of their Fathers; we see new gods placed in the temples of everyday life; we see a discarding of the moral principles that have proven their worth throughout the ages. About useverywhere we see people living in fear, shackled with tension and cringing from frayed nerves. Thy children are seeking for peace of mind and serenity of soul, but find neither in the market place, the palaces of pleasure, or the ways of godliness.

Grant that all men may again plant in their hearts the Cardinal Virtues of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. May men everywhere follow the precepts of Freemasonry and have the strength, the courage and the strength to do Thy Divine Will; to meet upon the level of equality, to live by the plumb-line of virtue, and act always on the square. Grant, Oh, Lord, that liberty and equal opportunity may exist in all lands and that the dignity of the individual be recognized
everywhere. May the Temples of Freemasonry throughout the world ever be open to give unto all men the spiritual strength to meet the vital problems of the hour, to the betterment of all men and the glory of Thy Holy Name.

Almighty Father, Thou who understandest our thoughts afar off, knowest that individual Masons belong to various creeds, yet each and every one believes in Thee; that all believe in the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man; that Holy Script is the rule and guide of their conduct; that though Masons hold various political beliefs, yet they believe in equal treatment for all before the law, and Thou knowest that these fundamental beliefs make for complete Harmony.

Inspire us, therefore, Gracious Father, to instill these gentle precepts of Freemasonry in the hearts of all men, so that Brotherly Love may prevail throughout the World. Cast Thou the Light of Thy Wisdom on our labors in the quarries of the Craft, that we may the better shape the stones of Faith, Hope and Charity for the erection of that house not made with hands, Eternal in the Heavens.

So Mote It Be.

Words to live by: "The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at- any-price, peace at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life."

Brother and President Theodore Roosevelt
