 Junior Warden's Corner

Brethren, We have a big day ahead of us soon, Saturday Jul 12th. It's a day which Mason's hold dear to their hearts. It's a day when White Mountain # 3 will honor those members which have served the fraternity faithfully over many years. Longevity awards are to be honored at lunch in the Lodge dining room. Our Junior Past Grand Master will be on hand to present 25, 50, 55, and 60+ year awards to our members. Please make plans to join us in this joyous occasion.

I applaud all those who have served Masonry and our lodge through many years. Although direct lodge support is not always possible through various stages of our lives, Masons are taught that is not just in the lodge that we exemplify the lessons we are taught within it but it is the manner which we exercise those qualities outside the lodge in the world. To be a Mason is to show the whole world that we are good men that lead by example so that others might decide that they should live the same way as well. Lodge fellowship is important in cementing and enhancing those qualities which all should possess when we knock on the door. We only take that starting point and improve upon it. Are there men that you know that possess those qualities? Shouldn't they have the opportunity that we received? They won't know about us unless you let them know. Gone are the days of secrecy in what we stand for. We can approach those we feel would benefit from what we have to offer and kindly say that you think he would be a good mason, look into it. They must come of their own free will and accord and we are never to badger anyone into joining but a gentle nudge wouldn't hurt. With the internet and excellent books like “Freemasons for Dummies”, they can research the fraternity like never before and make up their own minds if this is something they would like to pursue. It may be the greatest thing that anyone could ever do for him. I know that if it wasn't for Worshipful Brothers Gerhardt and Henry, I wouldn't be sitting at my desk and typing this newsletter. I wouldn't be part of the greatest fraternity in the world and would have never have met hundreds of really good men. Thinks about it and don't keep something this good to yourself.

Something to Think About

*Mehr Licht!*

*More Light!*

Number 272 – April 05, 2010

Dear Masonic Student,

Below is another essay by our Late Brother Dewey H. Wolstein, PGM of

the Grand Lodge of Georgia

Degrees and Life

By M.W. Brother Dewey H. Wolstein

WE CANNOT introduce innovations in Masonry. How-ever, this does not mean that we cannot put something of ourselves into Masonry. It is the responsibility and duty of everyone who has a part in conferring the degrees to not only speak the words but to deliver their meanings. His own heart must reach the heart of the candidate. Together with the words there must be a feeling that the lessons are not related to life, but are life.

Moral lessons are taught men by good mothers and good fathers. Men are morally qualified before they are qualified to become Masons. The great purpose of Masonry then is to make possible a system of moral development which will widen the path of improvement. When the lessons of Masonry fail in the objective of creating a living philosophy, a philosophy that helps to make life a richer, fuller experience, then the greatest good is lost.

A great poem becomes even greater when one takes the time and effort to study the state of mind of the author, and to more clearly understand the thought and inspiration behind the printed words.

So it is with the lessons of Masonry. We must take that which is warm, pulsating, alive, and drive it into the heart of the candidate.

*Words to live by:* Take good hold of instruction and don't let her go, keep her for she is your life.
