Master Corner

Brethren,

It is duty to inform everyone that our Brother Mitch Vuksanovich has demitted to the Supreme Grand Lodge. I wish to thank all the Brethren who made it to his funeral April 2nd. It is a duty we owe to our departed Brother. Whenever a Brother departs it's a day of mixed emotions. We know that someday we will all make that journey but like everything else, we care to put off to the last second. We all have a job to do while we are here although none of us appear to know what it is so we stumble through searching for the answers. Our travels may be over a rough and rugged road beset by ruffians but there are always those who help and guide us along the way. We may not realize it at the time, but they are there when we most need them. The lucky ones can call them Brothers.

We have a new task for the lodge. We have voted to conduct the Child Identification Program in the Globe/Miami area. We are teaming with the Globe Police department and Camelback Daylight lodge to provide this service starting September 17th. More information to follow. We will need support from all Brothers and wives to make this a big success. There is nothing more important than keeping our children safe. This program is also for those of us who have memory issues as well<smile>.

Looking forward to our May meeting where we plan to honor or wives and widows for Mother's Day at lunch.

Bill Greenen, Master

Senior Wardens Corner

Someone in a Blue Lodge was recently overheard saying, “These so-called Appendant Bodies pull good masons away from the Blue Lodges!” I disagree for the following reasons:

·         First of all, a good mason would never neglect his Blue Lodge(s)

·         Every Appendant Body adds light that helps to complete the Masonic storyline and to enrich the Masonic experience

·         The Appendant Bodies afford greater opportunities for leadership positions and for brothers to contribute more

·         In my personal experience, Appendant bodies have given me more opportunities for growth and development as a person and a Mason. Granted, I have to be careful to not overextend myself, but it is nice to be wanted on the team and to be there for others

·         Finally, Appendant Bodies add variety and help to keep things fresh and multidimensional. These aspects are brought back to the Blue Lodges in one form or another by the participating “good brothers” who are all too willing to share their Masonic adventures.

Ed Fox,

One happy Appendant body member and your Senior Warden

Something to Think About

THE MARK MASTER'S DEGREE By Steven G. Tiner, General Grand Scriber

THE MARK MASTER'S DEGREE

PART THREE

The Mark Master's Degree is indeed unique above all other degrees. It is prefaced by a "prologue", a play let, if you will, that is acted out for the benefit of the initiate. It portrays work going on in the quarries of King Solomon's Temple. A young Fellow-craft happens upon a beautiful stone that has already been prepared. He's immediately tempted to present it as his own work. This method of teaching in a degree is incongruous with the usual Masonic teaching process. The manner in which the exemplar is introduced into the Lodge room is not in accordance with usual Masonic custom. The concept of placing the candidate in the position of being an imposter and a cheat is not in keeping with Masonic philosophy as we have encountered it thus far in our journey through Masonic initiation. The point, though, is to commend honesty. The brightest light in this part of the initiation is found in those who were loath to discard the Keystone "OWING TO ITS SINGULAR FORM AND BEAUTY." They are, of course, criticized by the Master Overseer who asks, "what have we to do with singular form and beauty?" But the Junior and Senior Overseer were able to see something he was not. The Master Overseer could only see the "material" and not the "spiritual." He passes only on "square work", that which symbolizes the material. The Junior and Senior Overseers are impressed with the pure beauty of this emblem of spirituality and hesitate to discard it. The subordinate overseers, though supposedly ignorant of its true value, still recognize the beauty of the spiritual. The stone is, of course, finally discarded. If it were not, the allegory couldn't be taken to its logical completion and the lesson couldn't be driven home. This part of the degree reminds us that far too often, the most beautiful thing of life is heaved over in the rubbish by those who have not reached a level where they can recognize its inherent value and put it to its intended use.
